A Long Island SCORE chapter has helped create 278 new businesses and 321 new jobs for existing businesses in the area last year, according to a research study conducted by audit and consulting services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

About 27 percent of SCORE’s Long Island clients grew their businesses in 2015. Nationally, SCORE helped clients create 53,377 new businesses and 45,542 full-time jobs in 2015.

SCORE, a national nonprofit small business association founded in 1964, was previously known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

SCORE Long Island, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, provides free advisory and mentoring services to entrepreneurs, startups and established businesses on Long Island. The Hauppauge-based chapter has twelve locations in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
