LI shipping franchisers win awards

Two franchisers with Unishippers Global Logistics Llc, a national chain of express-mail and freight delivery providers, have won several in-house awards.

Among Unishipper's nearly 300 franchise owners, Robert and Michele DerMgrdichian, who are based in southwestern Suffolk County, won Rookie awards for the highest-performing new franchise, Unishippers said.

And Christopher Cadigan, whose franchise is based in southern Nassau County, received a platinum award for overall growth in customers and revenue. Only four platinum awards were given nationwide, during a Jan. 27 company convention in Utah, Unishippers said in a Tuesday news release.

"Winning franchisees excelled at delivering savings and great customer service to small and mid-sized businesses for all of their shipping needs, ultimately leading to increased new customer acquisition and revenue," Unishippers said in the news release.

Founded in 1987, Unishippers says it serves about 50,000 customers nationwide, using the combined volume of its franchisees to gain price discounts from UPS and dozens of regional and national carriers.
