Northwell opens new head and neck care facility

The new Sandra Atlas Bass Otolaryngology Center has opened on the campus of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Northwell Health said.
The 18,000-square-foot facility at 444 Lakeville Rd. in New Hyde Park offers head and neck outpatient procedures, adult laryngology, rhinology, skull base surgery, facial plastic surgery, general otolaryngology, adult speech language pathology and audiology testing. It includes 22 exam rooms and four procedure rooms, as well as testing facilities and conference rooms.
The new center is Northwell's flagship otolaryngology practice and adds to LIJ's existing hearing and speech facility at 430 Lakeville Rd., which has 13 exam rooms, according to Northwell. The health care system has 12 otolaryngology practices in the metropolitan area, including facilities in Bay Shore, Great Neck, Huntington and Plainview.
Dr. Andrea Vambutas, senior vice president and executive director of Northwell’s head and neck services, said the new facility will provide treatment “for many complicated otolaryngologic diseases that affect our ability to hear, smell, swallow or talk.”
The center's specialists also perform sinus surgery, sleep medicine, plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery.
Northwell donor Sandra Atlas Bass donated $12.15 million to establish the center, contributing to a Northwell fundraising campaign that aims to raise $1 billion. The New Hyde Park-based health system “is eternally grateful” for Bass’ support, Michael Dowling, Northwell’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “It’s been a three-decade-long philanthropic partnership that’s had a truly profound impact on the communities that we serve.”
The new center “will play a critical role in our ability to communicate and connect with others,” Bass said in a statement Monday.
