Linda Yaccarino, the Deer Park High School graduate who resigned as CEO of the X social media platform last month, has landed a job in health care.
On Tuesday, she was named CEO of the telehealth company eMed Population Health, which sells weight-loss drugs, according to a company announcement and Yaccarino's X post.
Online startup eMed, which is based in Miami, offered virtual COVID-19 tests during the pandemic and now sells weight-loss and diabetes medicines.
"Our vision is ambitious growth in transforming healthcare access," Yaccarino wrote on X, referring to eMed.
"This is truly a transformational moment in preventative healthcare, and I'm energized by the opportunity to help lead what could become the most impactful health initiative of our time," she said.
On July 9, also via an X post, Yaccarino announced her resignation as CEO of X, which is owned by billionaire Elon Musk. She didn't say why she was leaving but thanked Musk for "entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App."
Yaccarino, 62, was hired by Musk in June 2023 to oversee the business operations of X, while he focused on product development and new technology. He had purchased the platform, then called Twitter, in late 2022 for $44 billion.
Yaccarino was credited with bringing back advertisers who'd been turned off by the platform's controversial content after Musk downsized the staff, including many who enforced restrictions on inflammatory language. Before joining X, she had a long career in advertising at NBCUniversal and Turner Broadcasting System.
Yaccarino, who has a house in Woodbury, graduated from Deer Park High in 1981 with her twin sister, Lori. Both were elected officers of the senior class and played messenger girls in the senior play, "The Odd Couple," according to the 1981 yearbook.
After graduation, Linda Yaccarino attended Pennsylvania State University, where she earned a degree in broadcast communications in 1985, according to a Deer Park High reunion booklet.
