Lindenhurst school district purchases LifeVacs

The Lindenhurst school district has purchased 36 innovative suction devices invented on Long Island to save the lives of choking victims.
The district said in an announcement that it is the first in the state to purchase the device, called LifeVac, invented by Arthur Lih of Massapequa.
The devices will be placed in each of the district’s eight schools.
LifeVac is manually operated and portable and is intended to be used when standard choking procedures such as abdominal thrusts or the Heimlich maneuver aren’t working. LifeVac units also have been purchased by the Brentwood and Jericho fire departments.
The devices went on sale in August of last year. They’re manufactured in Brentwood and retail for $69.
