Career networking website LinkedIn ranked a Long Island university second in the nation for placing its graduates in media jobs.

Hofstra University, based in Hempstead, got second place for its success in placing graduates in what LinkedIn called "desirable media jobs," according to a report the website issued on Wednesday. The top spot on the list went to New York University.

LinkedIn compiled the rankings by examining its own users' data to identify companies that it felt succeeded at attracting and retaining staff, and then calculating the percentage of recent graduates who scored jobs that it judged were "desirable."

The remaining universities in the top-10 list for media professionals were, from No. 3 to No. 10: Duke, Howard, Northwestern, Syracuse, Quinnipiac, Fordham, Yale and Brown.
