LIRR seeks local firms for double-track event

Suffolk County and the Long Island Rail Road will hold an event April 19 for businesses interested in providing goods and services to the second-track project between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma.
Officials Tuesday announced plans for an informational event aimed at small businesses and minority- and women-owned companies. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Suffolk County Community College’s Health, Sports and Education Center on the Brentwood campus.
Business people interested in participating should send an email to the county’s economic development department: ecodevintern2@suffolkcountyny.gov.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said, “From general contractors to electrical, grading, paving and trucking, the project will create opportunities for a wide range of industry sectors.”
The 18-mile double track project is valued at $438 million and is expected to begin in July.
