LIRR sets event for women-, minority-owned businesses

The Long Island Rail Road will host an information and networking event for certified minority- and women-owned business enterprises and service disabled veteran-owned businesses on March 30 to discover potential contract opportunities for the proposed LIRR Expansion Project.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Antun’s of Queens Village, 96-43 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village. In attendance will be key decision makers and procurement officials from the LIRR, as well as the shortlisted design build teams.

The LIRR Expansion Project is a proposal to build a third track along a 9.8-mile stretch of the railroad’s Main Line corridor between the Floral Park and Hicksville train stations. It would include the elimination of the seven grade crossings along this route, as well as the upgrade of railroad infrastructure, stations and parking in the project area. The plan is estimated to cost about $2 billion.

The project, expected to take four years, will have design, construction and related contract opportunities for many different types of businesses from across different market sectors.

The outreach event is part of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s directive to achieve 30 percent MWBE contract goals and 6 percent SDVOB contract goals.
