A true classic for kids of all ages. Dick and Sally are stuck inside with nothing to do -- until a giant cat in a hat shows up, transforming the dull day into an adventure. Best for ages 5 and older; $8.99. Credit: Random House

Westbury-based Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union says it is sponsoring a literacy event Sunday to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, the children's book author known to most as Dr. Seuss.

The day coincides with the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day, which shares sponsorship of the celebration.

The event will take place at the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City, from noon to 4 p.m. Parents and children are invited, and there's space for as many as 1,500 children to attend as NEFCU's president, Edward Paternostro, reads stories. He will be accompanied by "storybook characters Curious George and Max the Bunny."

Admission to the museum is $11, with a $2 discount to NEFCU members; there's no extra charge for the Dr. Seuss readings. The museum is at 11 Davis Ave. in Garden City.
