Local runways busier last month
Runways at three area airports in May were slightly busier than a year ago, but the level of activity was lower than two years ago, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
There were 80,481 takeoffs and landings at Islip MacArthur, John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports for last month, a nearly 2 percent increase over 79,177 in May 2009.
In May 2008, there were 86,719 takeoffs and landings at those airports.
