Locals win PC Mag honors
Verizon’s FiOS fiber high-speed Internet service and Cablevision’s Internet phone service topped their respective categories for PC Mag’s 2010 national Readers’ Choice Awards released Tuesday.
In the category of Internet service provider, Verizon’s FiOS service was rated the best for the fifth year in a row. Readers were most satisfied with its speed and reliability.
A Midwest cable company, WOW! Internet cable, came in second, followed by AT&T’s U-Verse fiber offering; and Cablevision’s Optimum Online was fourth.
For alternatives to analog phone service, a decreased percentage of customers needing technical support helped Cablevision’s Optimum Voice come in first for the sixth straight year. Cablevision owns Newsday.
Another Long Island company that fared well was Canon, whose U.S. headquarters is in Lake Success, rated top for its printers and cameras.
And Systemax Inc., based in Port Washington, got an honorable mention for desktop pcs.
The ratings are based on surveys filled out by PCMag.com readers; the Readers' Choice Awards and Honorable Mentions are determined by the editors.
