Long Island consumer confidence up

The latest Quarterly Consumer Confidence survey released this week by the Siena (College) Research Institute came up yesterday in Newsday in a story about spending during the holiday shopping season.

The institute found that overall consumer confidence increased during the fourth quarter of 2010 in eight of the nine New York State Metropolitan statistical areas in New York State (those are “core urbanized areas of 50,000 or more people plus adjacent counties with strong social or economic ties, as measured by commuting patterns”).

New York City topped the list, up 2.4 points to 70.4, while Long Island ranked fourth, up 1.6 points to 67.7.  Overall and current confidence dropped only in Albany, where future confidence was unchanged.  Here are the gainers, with the number of points they’re up, their index and where they rank.
