Gasoline prices crept up slightly on Long Island in the past week as the July 4th holiday approaches.

The average cost of regular was $2.951 a gallon in Nassau and Suffolk on Wednesday, up a fraction of a cent from a week earlier, according to a survey of gasoline stations done for the AAA.

The current Long Island average is 5.5 cents higher than a year earlier.

On Wednesday, the website longislandgasprices.com, which compiles motorist reports, listed prices as high as $3.29 a gallon for regular - at seven stations in Suffolk County - and no lower than $2.73 at US Petroleum in Medford.
