Long Island Press names new editor-in-chief

Christopher Twarowski was named the editor-in-chief of the alternative weekly newspaper Long Island Press Thursday.

Twarowski replaces former editor Michael Nelson, who left the paper in May. Before his promotion, Twarowski served as the editor of investigations and a senior reporter for the Press.

He first joined the Long Island Press in 2002, when the free newspaper was known as the New Island Ear, and stayed on as an editorial assistant after the weekly changed its name in 2003.

Long Island Press publisher Jed Morey indicated more changes would be coming for the direction of the weekly newspaper when he announced Twarowski's appointment.

Twarowski has formerly worked for The Washington Post's metro and business section, and has won many accolades for his work, including awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the New York Press Association. He is a graduate of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
