Shares surged after the defense contractor said it will merge with electronics maker SenDEC. API, which trades on the OTC Bulletin Board, will seek a listing on Nasdaq when the deal closes.

Despite record quarterly sales, the chip maker had its worst week in two years after posting a $4.6 million loss and forecasting current-quarter profit below analysts' estimates.
