The Woodbury Mens Shop, a luxury retailer featuring everything from jeans to tuxedos, will host a grand opening celebration on Friday, toasting the store's debut as well as the return of some familiar faces in the local upscale apparel scene.

Three employees with decades of experience at Woodbury's former Thomas Miller Menswear store came together to launch the new luxury shop, located in the Woodbury Town Plaza on Jericho Turnpike.

Their goal: to bring back the "authentic menswear specialty store" concept, said James Foley, who partnered with Donald O'Connor and Marco DeStefano to establish the store. Mario Imbrenda, a master tailor known for more than 30 years of work at Thomas Miller, will also join the team at the new store.

In 2010, Thomas Miller Menswear was acquired by the Mitchell Family of Stores in Westport, Conn., and folded into Marshs in Huntington, an upscale clothing store that is part of the family-run luxury group.

With the merger, the inventory and core group of employees from Thomas Miller were moved to Huntington. Foley and his partners knew that the demand for a luxury men's store remained strong in Woodbury," Foley said.

"We knew that it was missing in Woodbury," Foley said. The Woodbury Mens Shop has been up and running since Oct. 26, when it had a "soft opening."

Friday's grand opening event includes a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a catered celebration from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
