Working Mother magazine has named CA Technologies one of the country's best companies for women of color, the publication plans to announce Tuesday.
It was the first time the Islandia-based software company made the list, which the magazine has published for nine years.
Twenty-three companies make up the list, which includes investment-banking company Goldman Sachs, Macy's and Verizon Communications.
The magazine said it chose CA for a number of factors. They include helping entry-level associates climb the career ladder by offering training, mentoring and job-shadowing opportunities; hosting female "tech stars" from the Middle East, and increasing its diversity budget 25 percent last year.
"Workplace diversity is important to us," Guy Di Lella, CA's chief human-resources officer, said in a statement. "It is something we nurture and encourage, because we recognize that our ability to succeed and excel in the marketplace depends on our people. We are honored to be acknowledged by Working Mother magazine for our commitment to creating workplace environments and practices that encourage learning from others and capture the advantage of diverse perspectives."
To be considered for the list, companies had to submit 2010 data about hiring, pay and promotion of multicultural employees, the magazine said. An independent research firm tabulated the results.
