The leader of the Community Development Corp. of Long Island will retire next year, the nonprofit housing group said Wednesday.
The corporation’s president and chief executive, Marianne Garvin, plans to retire in the first quarter of 2017, according to a news release from the group, which builds and rehabilitates affordable housing and assists homeowners in distress.
Garvin has worked for the group for nearly 25 years, and she has been chief executive since 2009. Under her leadership, the corporation has supplied 1,000 affordable rental units; counseled roughly 5,000 homeowners facing foreclosure; and assisted hundreds of families whose homes were damaged by superstorm Sandy.
Kevin Law, chief executive of the Long Island Association, called Garvin “an invaluable partner . . . advocating for an increase in affordable housing as a strategy to retain young people and to build an innovation economy on the Island.”
The corporation has hired a national search firm to find Garvin’s replacement.
