It's National Hiring Day at McDonald's, and the fast-food chain is set to sign up 50,000 new workers -- including some on Long Island, for example at the Central Islip location at 13 West Suffolk Ave.

"As sales increase, we're looking to add more to our staff," said Katie Hunt, an owner-operator.

"We're looking for part-time, full-time. We offer competitive pay and benefits," she said.

The Central Islip location's website says it is "Now Hiring Crew... Tuesday, April 19, 2011... 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm" at the 13 West Suffolk Ave. location.

"We believe you could do incredible things here," the company website says. "You've got enthusiasm, responsibility and drive. We've got flexible schedules, benefits and jobs that turn into satisfying careers. We think we're a perfect match. So let's get together."

Hunt declined to give more details on the McDonalds chain's local hiring.

The local franchisee, Hunt Enterprises, also has a warning for potential applicants: beware of scams. Under the heading "Spam Recruitment/Fraudulent Email Messages", the company says, "We have recently become aware of two Internet spam campaigns mentioning McDonald's: 1. Employment/Recruitment Fraud  2. Email Survey Fraud. We are taking this matter extremely seriously and working to determine the source of such emails. By making you aware of this issue, we hope to avoid and ultimately stop victims from falling for these types of scams."
