Melville-based Comtech snares $13 million in orders

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Tuesday announced orders worth almost $13 million, including $6.7 million for its Melville subsidiary.

The Long Island subsidiary, Comtech PST Corp., received the orders, for high-power microwave amplifier systems used to jam communications, from two unnamed international manufacturers.

"These orders clearly demonstrate our continued leadership position in providing communications jamming technology and the ongoing need for our high-power broadband amplifiers that are utilized by major electronic warfare application programs in both domestic and international markets," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive of Comtech Telecommunications, whose headquarters also is in Melville.

In addition, the Comtech Mobile Datacom subsidiary, based in Germantown, Maryland, received $6.1 million in additional funding for the U.S. Army's Blue Force Tracking program used to provide battle command communications.

Shares of Comtech, which has about 1,000 employees, edged down 1 cent to $38.26 in early afternoon trading.
