Melville company in patent suit
Bovie Medical Corp. of Melville, which makes surgical products, has been hit with a lawsuit alleging patent infringement.
Salient Surgical Technologies Inc. of Portsmouth, N.H., filed the suit last week in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
Salient’s lawsuit says Bovie’s manufacture, use and sale of a “fluid-assisted electrosurgical device” infringes on a patent that Salient has licenses.
Bovie responded to the lawsuit in a notice filed Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
It said Bovie “is presently evaluating the allegations asserted in the complaint and anticipates that it will vigorously defend its interests.”
