Misonix Inc., a Farmingdale maker of ultrasonic surgical equipment, has signed a new distribution partner in Panama, another step in a global expansion that, in recent weeks, has seen it announce other new partnerships in Ecuador, Malaysia and Singapore.
Under the terms of the three-year contract the Panamanian company, Neuro Dynamics S.A., will sell and market several Misonix products including the SonaStar ultrasonic surgical aspirator and the BoneScalpel ultrasonic bone cutter. The Neuro Dynamics staff has already been trained by Misonix, and the sales effort has begun, the Melville company said Tuesday morning.
Misonix, in the past four quarterly reports, had a loss of $1.7 million, or 26 cents per share, on revenue of $15.75 million.
With about 75 employees and a market capitalization of $13.65 million, the company's shares In light trading Tuesday on the Nasdaq fell 7 cents to $1.95. The stock has a 52-week range of $1.50-$2.66.
Misonix specializes in global sales of equipment for “wound debridement, spine surgery, cosmetic surgery, neurosurgery, laparoscopic surgery and other surgical applications.“
In October and November, Misonix announced new distribution pacts in Thailand, India, Algeria, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
The company's SonaStar divide is used by neurosurgeons and general surgeons for removal of hard and soft tumors; the BoneScalpel is a “tissue specific osteotomy device capable of making precise cuts through bone and hard tissue while largely preserving delicate soft tissue structures,“ the company said.
