More than $18 million in back wages recovered, state says

New York State is on track to recover a record amount this year in back wages and benefits owed to workers, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's office announced Wednesday.
In the first seven months of this year, the state recovered and distributed $18.1 million to nearly 19,000 workers whose employers failed to pay them the proper minimum wage, overtime or promised benefits.
That dollar amount rose 6 percent from the same period last year and "is on pace to beat the record $30.2 million" recovered for all of 2014, the office said.
The total so far this year includes $2.4 million distributed to 1,605 Long Island workers.
