Most ingenious deal of the year among ABLI honors at dinner Thursday night

Commercial brokerage Newmark Grubb Knight Frank took home the honor of orchestrating Long Island's most ingenious deal of the year at the annual awards dinner of the Association for a Better Long Island and the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society Thursday night.
The award, presented at the 20th annual Long Island Real Estate Dinner, held at the Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage, was given to a team of Newmark brokers for their sale of 600 Community Dr. in Manhasset to Massachusetts-based Waterstone Development, which was subsequently leased to North Shore-LIJ Health System under a 30-year lease-to-own agreement
The team winners included brokers Scott Berfas, Dan Oliver, Jordan Oliver, Brian Waterman and Barry Gosin.
Frank Castagna, principal of 92-year-old development firm Castagna Realty Co., received a lifetime achievement award in commercial real estate.
East Setauket-based Tritec Real Estate Co. was also honored, taking home the developer of the year award for its $112 million mixed-use New Village project in Patchogue. Started in 2007, the New Village development was completed last year, is 60 percent occupied, and is expected to be fully leased later this year.
