Melville-based MSC Industrial Direct Co., one of Long Island's largest publicly traded companies, opened a 400,000-square-foot distribution center in Columbus, Ohio, this week.
The distributor of industrial tools and supplies employs 100 full-time workers at the center, with that number expected to rise to 300 by the end of 2017.
MSC announced plans for the center in the summer of 2012. It spent about $55.5 million for the project and will receive about $9 million in tax breaks and other incentives over 10 years from state, county and local governments and other entities.
