Melville-based MSC Industrial Direct Co. plans to build a distribution center in Columbus, Ohio, that will employ about 300 full-time workers by the end of 2017.

The company, which distributes industrial tools and supplies, plans to invest about $55 million to construct a 400,000-square-foot facility on 70 acres, MSC said in statement earlier this week. It will receive about $9 million in tax breaks and others incentives over 10 years from state and local government and other entities.

MSC said the Midwestern city “provides easy access to key markets and resources, as well as a rich pool of local talent.”

In June, MSC, one of Long Island’s largest companies, is said it was establishing a second headquarters in Davidson, N.C., while maintaining its Melville location. As part of that move, it plans to build a 180,000-square-foot facility there and eventually employ more than 400 workers. MSC has 4,663 employees, including 664 on Long Island.
