Nearly 300 applications for business aid from NYS

The Long Island Regional Economic Development Council has received 295 applications from developers, businesses and not-for-profit groups for a share of up to $760 million worth of state tax credits and grants, a spokesman said Friday.
More than 2,000 applications were received statewide. The deadline was Aug. 12
The council, appointed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, received 291 project applications last year, the second time New York State had a competition for development aid.
In the 2012 contest, Long Island received $59.7 million for 86 projects. The region was a runner up; it was a big winner in 2011.
Council members now will judge the applications and send their recommendations to Albany on Sept. 24. Cuomo is expected to announce the winners later this year.
