New LED-manufacturing line from Veeco

Veeco Instruments Inc., one of Long Island's largest technology companies, has rolled out its latest series of machines used to produce LED lighting for flat-panel TVs, cellphones, street lamps and a variety of other electronics.

The Plainview-based company introduced three new models in its TurboDisc line: the MaxBright M, MaxBright MHP and K465i HP. The machines spread an ultrathin layer of conductive particles atop wafers of sapphire to produce LEDs.

“This new suite of products provides our customers with tremendous flexibility to make the most of their capital investments and choose the system that works best in their unique production environment,” said William J. Miller, an executive vice president for the company.

Veeco’s stock was up modestly in early trading, to $34.99 a share.
