New responsibilities in government

Port Jefferson resident, Jill Nees-Russell, left, was appointed consultant on economic development and public relations for the Village of Port Jefferson. The public relations veteran is president of the Parent Teachers Association at the Edna Louise Spear Elementary School and public relations volunteer at the Children's Maritime Museum, both in Port Jefferson.

The first district southern region of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary announced two appointments: North Merrick resident, Hal Marschall, right, was promoted from chief of staff to district commodore. He is retired after 25 years in the finance industry.

Vincent T. Pica, center, of Westhampton Beach was promoted to district chief of staff from district captain. He is managing partner and president at Safanad, an investment firm in Manhattan.
