If you follow the unemployment rate for your locality, you’re going to have a longer wait. As of Thursday’s report, the state Labor Department will no longer package those numbers with its employment report.

The department will continue to release the employment numbers midmonth on a Thursday and will include separate jobless data for the state and New York City. But the agency will release the local jobless data the following Tuesday.

Why the change?

“We’re changing to be consistent with the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ new production schedule and publication guidelines,” a state Labor Department spokeswoman said.
