Nursing service in deal for alerts

American Medical Alert Corp., of Oceanside, has a new deal with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York to supply around-the-clock health monitoring systems for outpatients.
The 24-hour health monitoring service will cost $29.95 a month, which is about $5 less per month than the industry average for such service, the nursing association said. The alert service will be marketed as VNSNY AssistNow.
VNSNY AssistNow provides patients with either a pendant or a bracelet, the nursing association said in a news release. In an emergency, when a patient activates the device, it "elicits a two-way voice response from AMAC's skilled emergency personnel to determine the nature of the call and contact emergency responders if necessary."
The nurse service gives more details on the servie: professional installation and activation fees in the tri-state area will be waived by VNS for the initial product launch period. The system includes a two-way voice console unit, personal help activator, telephone and power cord and 24/7 medical monitoring service. There is no long-term service contract or commitment required of the customer.
