Northwell Health will be the official health care provider of the New York Cosmos soccer team, the organizations announced Thursday.

Great Neck-based Northwell, formerly known as North Shore-LIJ Health System, will provide orthopedic and other medical services to the Cosmos first team and B team squads. Northwell also will be a sponsor and health care provider for the team’s training and development program.

The Cosmos, who play at Shuart Stadium on the Hofstra University campus in Uniondale, are the 2015 North American Soccer League champions.

Dr. Nicholas A. Sgaglione, chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Northwell Health and at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, will serve as the team’s medical director. Drs. Andrew D. Goodwillie and Randy M. Cohn will be head team physician and associate team physician, respectively.

The Cosmos, who are seeking to build a new stadium at Belmont Park in Elmont, won their seventh NASL title on Nov. 15 with a 3-2 win over Ottawa Fury FC at Shuart Stadium.
