Homeowners in distress can get help from state officials and housing counselors in Copiague Friday.

The state Department of Financial Services' representatives and federally certified housing counselors will meet with homeowners from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the agency's foreclosure prevention van, located outside the Copiague Public Library, 50 Deauville Blvd. Homeowners can get help applying for loan modifications, communicating with lenders and filing complaints.

Homeowners can also call the agency's toll-free foreclosure prevention hotline at 800-342-3736 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Or, homeowners can file complaints against their mortgage lender or servicer using the agency's website, dfs.ny.gov.
