NY Labor Department to aid Sandy-stricken small businesses

The state Labor Department plans to send inspectors to help Sandy-damaged small businesses, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced this week.
The inspectors will perform safety and health checks for free, saving the affected companies thousands of dollars. Cuomo said the program is aimed at helping businesses to reopen more quickly after the Oct. 29 storm.
To schedule an inspection, business owners can call 1-888-469-7365 or visit www.labor.ny.gov/workerprotection/safetyhealth/safetyhealthtourism.shtm.
Labor Commissioner Peter Rivera said, “These consultations are aimed at improving safety and helping business, and will not result in a penalty or violation, so long as any serious hazards are addressed.”
The department began offering free inspections in 2011.
