New York State government is seeking a piece of the after-Thanksgiving shopping pie.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is offering a 50-percent discount on subscriptions to the New York State Conservationist magazine, if ordered on Black Friday, the forthcoming weekend or Monday.

The deal applies to new subscriptions and renewals. The magazine, which publishes seven issues, usually sells for $12 for a one-year subscription.

“For half off the regular subscription price of the Conservationist on new orders and renewals, this would make a great holiday gift this season,” DEC commissioner Joe Martens said Wednesday.

The magazine focuses on fish, wildlife and outdoor recreation in the state.
Orders can be placed at www.theconservationist.org or by calling 800-678-6399.

Now who says Albany cannot act like a business? Maybe the Department of Motor Vehicles will follow suit with a deal on driver's license renewals or license plates.
