A commercial laundry company plans to close its Oceanside plant and lay off as many as 171 workers, according to a state regulatory notice.

The notice from Ocean Side Institutional Industries lists June 18 as the closing date and says the layoffs will begin June 15. The notice, which was posted on the Labor Department’s website last week, cited the reason as “economic.”

Ocean Side Institutional didn’t return repeated phone calls seeking comment, and it’s unclear if the employees will be offered jobs at the company’s other locations. According to its website, Ocean Side operates four locations and has more than 400 employees.

The website says the company’s clients include hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants, airports and corporations.

Ocean Side Institutional filed a notice of the planned closing of its Freeport plant, which employed 105 workers, in 2012.

Under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies with at least 50 full-time employees have to file a 90-day notice ahead of a massive layoff or closing, or they face fines.
