OK Petroleum plans $6.6M HQ in Hauppauge

Fuel supplier OK Petroleum is planning a $6.6-million headquarters and warehouse in Hauppauge, officials said Wednesday.

The seller of gasoline, home heating oil, motor oil and other automotive products wants to construct a 63,449-square-foot building on five acres along Commerce Drive. It will add 10 workers to its staff of 47 over the next two years.

The structure would replace a 12,000-square-foot office and warehouse complex in West Babylon that OK built in 2001 and now expects to put up for sale.

"We grow every year . . . We want to consolidate our whole operation in Hauppauge," said Leo Musacchia, a company vice president and co-owner.

In return for OK's pledge to increase hiring and investment, the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency Wednesday agreed to provide $777,669 in tax breaks, including $579,743 off property taxes over 10 years.

OK was founded in 1984 by Musacchia's father, John, who continues to serve as president. Six family members are top executives.

"We're there every day; we work hard," Leo Musacchia told the IDA. "The new building will allow us to grow in all divisions and make our business more profitable."

He said he hopes to begin construction in March.

OK has 25 service stations in Nassau and Suffolk counties, operated by franchisees. It also sells large quantities of Mobil and Castrol motor oil, and supplies home heating oil to homeowners and businesses directly and to independent companies that sell to them.

The company has a fuel terminal in Amityville for home heating oil.

Employees, on average, earn $70,958 per year, records show. Some are represented by Local 223 of the Amalgamated Industrial and Toy and Novelty Workers of America.
