A division of the Hauppauge-based defense and industrial electronics company Orbit International Corp. has a new $1.7 million aircraft parts order from the U.S. Navy.

The order from Orbit’s Behlman Electronics Inc. division is for a commercial off-the-shelf, or COTS, power supply. The Behlman division is also based in Hauppauge.

The part, which distributes electrical power in a surveillance system, will be installed in U.S. Navy aircraft deployed on anti-submarine and anti-ship defense duty.

Deliveries under this contract are expected to start at the end of the year, and to continue through the end of next year.

This order represents the final optional purchase under a five-part contract originally negotiated 2006, Orbit said. “At the customer's request, Behlman has quoted a follow-on multiyear order for the same program which could lead to continuous production equal to this current order on an annual basis through the year 2016,” Orbit said in a news release.
