Painter and paperhanger apprentice program taking applications

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for District Council 9 is taking applications Friday through June 12 for 50 painter, decorator and paperhanger apprentices on Long Island and in New York City and Westchester County.

Applications can be obtained from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the council office, 45-15 36th St. in Long Island City.

Only 500 applications will be distributed so the recruitment period may be closed early, an official said.

Applicants should be 18 or older, have a high school diploma or its equivalent, sign an affidavit that they are physically able to do the work of a painter, decorator and paperhanger, attend a three-day orientation program and have transportation.
