A Pall Corp. executive will lead a discussion in Moscow next week at a mining convention, on the subject of treating wastewater to reduce pollution at open-pit and underground gold and coal mine sites.

Bernhard Doll, vice president of industrial water marketing for the Port Washington filtration company, will open the MiningWorld Russia session on April 24 with a talk titled “Mine Water and Wastewater Treatment Solutions for Discharge and Reuse."

The mining industry is booming amid high demand for precious metals and fossil fuels, while "more than 70 percent of pollutants from mining operations are emitted into water," which must then be treated, Doll said in a Tuesday news release.

The company will showcase its Aria system, which uses hollow-fiber membranes to treat  mine drainage water, pit water, waste water, and produced water from coal seam methane sites.

Pall has about 500 employees on Long Island and 10,400 others worldwide, producing systems to process water, blood, beer, wine, milk and other liquids.
