Pall gets contract in quake zone

A safe, steady supply of fresh drinking water for earthquake-battered Calexico, Calif., will result from a new contract for Pall Corp., the Port Washington-based company says.
Calexico was hit by a 7.2 magnitude quake on Easter Sunday that damaged many buildings and its water system. (NASA annouced this week that the quake was strong enough to shift the region more than 2 feet south.)
Pall has a deal with the city of Calexico to deliver four of its trailer-mounted Aria mobile water treatment systems, capable of purifying four million gallons of drinking water a day.
"The Pall systems have helped alleviate a very difficult situation," Victor Rodriguez, supervisor of Calexico's water treatment plant, said, according to a Pall news release.
"Our normal production volume was reduced significantly due to the earthquake, and the systems have helped us meet our critical needs until the existing municipal system can be restored to full operation."
The Aria systems "transform contaminated water into water that is free from harmful bacteria, cysts, and particles."
