Pall Corp., the Port Washington filtration maker, has won a $14 million contract to supply filter systems for 59 U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

Pall’s Centrisep system keeps dust and sand from inlet air, preventing damage to the Boeing copter's engines.

Pall will ship the systems in a one-year period starting in December.

The Chinook filtration system helps the helicopters fulfill combat missions such as “the movement of troops, artillery, ammunition, fuel, water, supplies and equipment on the battlefield,” Pall said.

“It is also used for disaster relief, medical evacuations, fire fighting, parachute drops, and search and rescue,” Pall said. “A central element in the Gulf War, CH-47s continue to be the standard for the U.S. Army in the global campaign against terrorism.”

Pall said its filtration system prolongs the life of the Chinook engines. The company also supplies hydraulic, transmission, engine lubrication, and fuel filtration systems for the Chinook.
