Pall wine filter wins award

Port Washington-based Pall Corp. has won a wine industry technology award for its winemaking filter system.

The Pall product, the Oenofine XL, won the prize in the Vinitech Siefel 2010 Innovation Awards competition. Pall will exhibit the new system next month in Bordeaux, France, at a Vinitech conference.

It won in the category of "innovations for wine production and packaging."

The system, Pall says, saves winemakers time and money by combining two traditional production steps into a single process. The two steps are protein stabilization and product clarification; in the Pall single-process system the winemaker adds "activated bentonite directly into the filtration process, upstream of the filter modules."
