Patio umbrellas, bunk beds subject of recalls
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and two national retailers have announced product recalls.
Bed Bath & Beyond has recalled about 7,600 cantilever patio umbrellas with solar lights because a plastic connector can break and allow the umbrella to collapse. The company has received 21 reports of umbrellas collapsing, including three reports of injuries. The umbrellas, which were manufactured in China, were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond stores and online through the company's websites between February and June. More details are available online at cpsc.gov.
Separately, Pottery Barn Kids, a division of Williams-Sonoma Inc. of San Francisco, has recalled about 405 Madeline bunk beds because the shape of the end boards could pose an entrapment hazard. No incidents have been reported. The beds were manufactured in Vietnam and sold at Pottery Barn Kids stores, as well as through the company's catalog and on its website, between July 2009 and March 2010.
