Pennsylvania bank moves into Long Island market with Melville office

Pennsylvania-based Customers Bank, an institution focused on business customers, has opened its first Long Island office in Melville.

The office opened June 1 at 324 S. Service Rd., Suite 300. Its arrival was marked with a ribbon-cutting Monday.

A unit of publicly traded Customers Bancorp Inc. of Wyomissing, Customers has 14 branches and four "loan and representative offices" such as the one in Melville in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Its other New York locations are in Manhattan and Rye Brook.

Customers Bank had assets of $7.1 billion on March 31. Its shares closed Monday at $26.54, down 34 cents, on the New York Stock Exchange.
