Well-known guitar string make D'Addario &. Co. on Thursday turned up the volume at the Carle Place Guitar Center store, recruiting several musicians to help them unveil a new line of electric guitar strings dubbed NYXL.

The East Farmingdale-based company touts the strings as being stronger and staying in tune longer than previous strings, and has created a multimedia site to that explores the making, testing and ultimately the playing of NYXL strings.

At the Guitar Center on Monday, guitarists Guthrie Trapp, Oz Noy, Alex Skolnick of Testament, Vernon Reid of Living Colour, Robben Ford of L.A. express and David Bowie collaborator Earl Slick performed at the store for a free concert. Visitors were also able to buy and test the company's new strings.

The event came on the same day that Newsday reported D'Addario's plans to open another Suffolk County factory, a deal helped along by millions in tax breaks offered by the Babylon Town Industrial Development Agency.
