Planet Fitness has opened in Holbrook — becoming the gym giant's 30th location on Long Island.
The 19,000-square-foot gym at 5705 Sunrise Highway features cardio and strength equipment, functional training areas, a hot and cold therapy bed, tanning and a spa, said general manager Victoria Gigliotti.
The facility opened with more than 3,000 members and will likely serve residents of Brookhaven and Islip towns, as well as elsewhere by virtue of being on Sunrise Highway.
"The visibility due to the heavy traffic on Sunrise Highway will allow us to broaden our clientele," Gigliotti said in a phone interview.
The new gym is in the Sun Lakes Shopping Center.
With the Holbrook location, Planet Fitness is continuing its rapid expansion in the United States and overseas. The public company opened 181 gyms last year, with 104 between October and December. It now has nearly 2,900 locations, CEO Colleen Keating told stock analysts in February.
Planet Fitness expects to open 180 to 190 more gyms this year, she said.
Planet Fitness had 17 gyms locally seven years ago, Newsday previously reported.
The company, based in Hampton, New Hampshire, reported a profit of $219 million for the year ending Dec. 31, 2025, on revenue of $1.3 billion.
The Holbrook gym has 13 employees, said Gigliotti, the manager, adding a grand opening event with giveaways is planned for Thursday.
