Morningstar Farms recalls frozen food products due to possible plastic contamination

A plant-based food brand is recalling two frozen products due to possible plastic pieces in its artificial meats. 

Morningstar Farms, which produces plant-based food products, announced Friday it is voluntarily recalling its 10.5 oz. Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and 8 oz. Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties.

The products are recalled in stores across the United States, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. The recall was posted on the U.S. FDA's website Monday.

According to the Morningstar Farms website, both products are sold throughout Long Island at numerous Walmart, Wegmans, Target and Stop & Shop stores.

The affected nuggets have a "better if used before" date of July 2027, the same date as the affected patties, Morningstar Farms said in a news release.

UPC codes include 000 28989 10110 5 for the nuggets and 000 28989 10094 for the patties.

The news release did not say how plastic pieces may have gotten into the food products or indicate the size of the pieces.

"People who purchased affected product should discard it and contact the company for a full refund," the release said.

Kellanova, which owns Morningstar Farms, said on its website that consumers can contact Consumer Affairs from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. by calling 800-962-0120 or texting 877-453-5837 with questions or concerns.
