Port Washington company adding jobs off the Island

Port Washington-based Systemax Inc. is creating 400 new full-time jobs.

In Georgia.

It will hire the 400 workers for a new sales and distribution center it’s building in Jefferson, Ga., for its brands including TigerDirect, CompUSA and Circuit City.
The computer retailer says the Georgia location will help it streamline delivery to customers nationwide.

"Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue joined with Systemax Inc. and local officials in Jackson County today to celebrate the grand opening of the company's facility," Systemax said in a Monday news release.

It will spend $15 million building the center, which will ship Internet, catalog and inbound phone-based orders. The new hires will take place over the next five years.

Systemax now has about 5,000 employees altogether, including staff for CompUSA and Circuit City retail stores nationwide; TigerDirect.com online fulfillment staff; and brand names Global Computer Supplies, TigerDirect.ca, Misco, Global Industrial, ArrowStar, and Nexel.

It has a market capitalization of nearly a half-billion dollars and revenue of $3.2 billion for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31.
