Research shows compression garment use after liposuction can benefit patients.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 18, 2013

Although liposuction was developed in the 1970s, and compression garments have been used in the past on patients, there is now scientific research to document the benefits of compression garments to the patients.

A clinical research project and international presentations in the U.S., Canada, Israel, Panama and Malaysia compared the results of two cohorts of patients who underwent liposuction and were asked to wear two kinds of full body compression garments after surgery. Their experiences and results were evaluated using five-point scales to determine if such things as garment feel/comfort and recovery/healing were affected by the type of garment used post-operatively. Modern medical compression garments, developed from technological advances in textiles, have now been shown to maximize healing, surgical results, and patient comfort during the recovery period from liposuction surgery. Dr. Paul Fortes performs liposuction at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery in Houston, and speaks highly of the benefits of using compression garments.

“Aesthetic surgery, including liposuction surgery, will continue to be performed by well-trained and experienced plastic surgeons and requested by their patients because of the physical and psychological benefits that it brings," he said. “To be human means that we will always be affected by the way we look and the way we feel about ourselves. Aesthetic surgery affects both body and mind. When we look our best we tend to feel our best, and vice versa. Aesthetic surgeons are the specialists of their field. They are the ones who produce advances and who are most capable of scrutinizing the safety and efficacy of new developments in aesthetic surgery. As an aesthetic plastic surgeon, I always look forward to seeing the transforming affects that aesthetic surgery has on the lives of my patients. Its personal rewards to me are immeasurable.”
